REBEL – Accra, Ghana
Patricia Oghene-Tega is a nineteen-year-old rapper, singer and songwriter already taking Ghana by storm with her lyrical prowess, dynamic, energetic flow and her own brand of sexy! Originating from Nigeria she is known by her stage name “Rebel.”
Although she has been singing and writing most of her life, she started rapping at the age of 15, influenced originally by Alicia Keys and then listening more to rap through superstar Nicki Minaj.
Following the tragic death of her mother, Rebel was inspired to complete her first mix tape on December 15, 2014, aptly named “Stolen Grace.” Following this she launched into the New Year with a video to her cover of “Black Skinhead” by Kanye West.
She says “Stolen Grace” is about her having stolen another chance at making life work for her, even when there was no hope for things to remain right she found solace with music and arts and decided she was going to put together a mix tape telling just that.
As an artist her focus isn’t only on music, she also dances, is an inspirational speaker, an activist and lives by her belief that “humans have the potential and power to become and do anything.”
She is Rebel because she is not a believer of the “status quo,” the ordinary way of doing things, she is “a square peg in a round hole,” a misfit, and she likes to dream beyond the norm and cross boundaries with every experience she has.
She writes quickly, her technique is rebellious and real and she is set to become a permanent fixture on Africa’s musical landscape. So get to know Rebel!
